PS-21E is an “Open ink
system” which basically means that the ink is
exposed and covers the entire cliché on the forward
stroke (When printing the product).
On the backward stroke, the “Doctor blade” scrapes
way all the ink back into the ink trough - but an
adequate amount of inks stays in the etched part of
the cliché. It is this ink that is actually picked
up by the pad and stamped onto the product.
Whether you opt for a closed cup or an open ink
systems is really a matter of personal choice. Our
advise for beginners is to opt for closed cup system
as there are indeed many benefits to be gained (see
previous section).
With an open ink system, inks do require thinning
constantly (especially on a hot or humid day) and
this could delay production.
